Who is Nikola Tesla?
- Nikola Tesla is most famous for inventing Alternating Current (AC) that provides electricity for homes, buildings and industries.
- Nikola Tesla (born july 10, 1856, Smiljan, Austrian Empire [now in Croatia], Died January 7, 1943, New York, U.S.)
- He was an Serbian American inventor, Electrical engineer, Mechanical engineer and Physicist.
NIKOLA TESLA
Why Nilola Tesla is so famous?
He pioneered the generation, transmission and use of alternating current (AC). Which can be transmitted over much greater distances than direct current (DC).
Inventions of Nikola Tesla
- AC power
- Tesla coil
- Magnifying transmitter
- Shadowgraph
- Tesla turbine
- Radio
- Induction motor
- Neon lamps
- World wireless system
- Tesla's oscillator
- Hydroelectric power
Contribution of Nikola Tesla in Alternating Current (AC)
- Tesla’s greatest practical achievement is the development of the AC (Alternating Current) electrical system, which is used worldwide today.
- From the power source to power user, it provided the basic for electric production and distribution.
- Electricity in its natural state is alternating, meaning that its direction of flow changes rapidly.
- It’s like a river flowing downstream, then upstream, then downstream, and so on, many times a second.
- Current can be used in two different forms. One is Alternating Current (AC) and another one is Direct Current (DC).
- The main difference between AC and DC lies in the direction in which the electrons flow. In AC the direction of electrons keep switching, going forward and then backward. In DC the electrons flow steadily in a single direction.
- Tesla made a device that induce electric current in a rotor that spinning between two electrified coil of wires and he patened that device. The magnetic field produced by rotor generates Alternating Current. The rotor rotated by using some form of mechanical energy like steam or hydro power. When the generated current reaches its user and it is fed into another rotating magnetic field device and it is called as induction motor that produce electrical energy into mechanical energy. Induction motors run household appliances like clothes washer, dryers, ceiling fans and water coolers. Over the years the Induction motors are developed and it led to widespread industrial and manufacturing uses for electricity.
- Induction motor was one of the famous invention of Nikola Tesla. He invented so many things like this.
- I will cover that in my upcoming blogs.
